Quantum does not necessarily refer to quantum physics. “Quantum” comes from the Latin word “Quantus” which simply means an amount of something. We also derive our word “Quantity” from this word. Quantity is actually the largest amount whereas Quantum is the smallest amount. A box with 100 pencils would have a quantity of 100 and a quantum of 1.
In our context of Lightning Probes the ICs we are targeting are defined by a base amount of space in millimeters between the centers of the contact legs referred to as "pitch", such as 0.4mm or 0.5mm etc. Shawtronics USA Lightning Probes are engineered to the quantum to ensure accurate connectivity.

While not absolutely necessary it is recommended especially for use in a professional shop or lab.
